Medical Weight Loss FAQs

A once-weekly injectable peptide commonly used for type-II diabetes mellitus & has been used for over 15 years for management of insulin resistance. It belongs to a drug class called glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA’s).

‣ Semaglutide is the same peptide as Ozempic & Wegovy. Consider this generic versus brand name. We source our Semaglutide through compounding pharmacies to avoid taking medication away from diabetics who need it, as well as for additional benefits such as added B12 for energy.

‣ To obtain Ozempic from a pharmacy, a patient must have a type-II diabetes mellitus diagnosis & A1C >6.5. If this applies to you, we typically prescribe Ozempic for you, pending pharmacy availability & insurance coverage.

‣ Wegovy is the only GLP-1 RA approved for weight loss. It is currently difficult to obtain certain doses, particularly the starting doses. Additionally, many insurance plans do not cover weight loss medications.

‣ Mounjaro is a dual peptide & belongs to the GLP-1 & GIP drug class. We offer Tirzepatide, the same peptide as Mounjaro, also from compounding pharmacies. Ask us more about this program.

‣ Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone that the body releases after eating. This signals the body to release insulin to lower blood sugar. By optimizing insulin management & the body’s response to insulin, the liver will not store additional sugar as fat.

‣ Semaglutide also delays gastric emptying. This makes people feel fuller for longer, consume smaller amounts of food, & thereby reduce calorie consumption. Patients also report a decrease in cravings.

‣ Most patients lose about 1-2 pounds per week or 4-8 pounds per month.
